Brief History

Wolaita Sodo is the crossroads of numerous national routes. The town also has one of the best climatic conditions described as woinadega with a warm weather that is neither too hot nor too cold. It is also one of the fastest growing towns in the SNNPR with physical and administrative capacities. These unique features give it the prospect of being one of the influential financial centres in the south part of Ethiopa.

The College of Business and Economics is located in Wolaita Sodo University, Gandaba Campus in Wolaita Sodo town. This creates the opportunity to participate in the process of transformation of the town and surrounding communities through capacity building, consultancy, and awareness creation.

The College of Business and Economics (CBE) was established in 2007 G.C alongside four other faculties upon the inauguration of the university. The college has started its activities with three departments, 150 students and seven academic staffs. The college enrolled its first batch of students into the departments of Accounting, Economics and Business Management. The college has successfully graduated seven (7) batches of student so far. The college has also expanded its instructional activities by adding one more department–Public Administration and Development Management and a post graduate program in Business Administration.

Currently, four undergraduate programs are being administered under the regular scheme, three in the weekend scheme, one summer program in Cooperatives Business Management, and Cooperative Accounting and Auditing and also a master of business administration in both regular and weekend modalities. In addition, the college has completed all necessary preparation to begin post graduate program in Accounting and Finance and in Economics (Development Economics and International Economics). Moreover, the college begin weekend program in Public Administration and Development management.
